Becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister

Programs

COMMUNITY-BASED MENTORING
Big Brothers/Big Sisters

This program offers a one-to-one relationship between an adult volunteer and a child. The "Big" provides friendship, guidance and support for the "Little" through activities and companionship. “Bigs” make a commitment to meet with a child 6-8 hours a month for at least one year. Activities are planned by the “Big” and “Little” according to their schedules. A Case Manager provides support and activity ideas.

Big Sisters/ Little Brothers

Although our agency strives to “match” boys with Big Brothers, due to the high number of boys requesting mentors, we do offer the option of matching Big Sisters to young boys.

Big Couples

Many couples have a desire to share their volunteer time. With our Big Couples program a Little Brother is matched with a couple wanting to give time together. Both adults act as a "Big" to the child.

High School Bigs

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, and a junior or senior in high school. They make a commitment to meet with their “Little” 6-8 hours a month for one school year. Activities are planned by the “Big” and “Little” according to their schedules.

SCHOOL-BASED MENTORING

This program offers a one-to-one relationship between an adult volunteer and a child in a supervised setting. "Bigs" meet with a child at a local elementary school one hour per week. They provide friendship, guidance and support for the "Little" through activities such as: going over homework, watching a school play, eating lunch on the playground or reading together. A Case Manager provides support and activity ideas.

MENTORING AS A MINISTRY
Churches and other faith-based organizations do an excellent job serving the needs of their members but often are looking for new outreach opportunities to serve and minister to the broader community. If this describes you, Big Brothers Big Sisters can provide you with a vehicle to minister and serve the local community. Children matched with your volunteers would have the opportunity to participate in church or organizational activities. Attending church together could be included as a "match" activity.
